Florida Atlantic University's AI Application in Accounting equips accounting and finance professionals with the hands-on skills to work alongside AI tools intelligently, responsibly, and with the professional skepticism that separates a competent practitioner from one who simply hits "accept." No programming background is required, only accounting knowledge and the willingness to challenge what a machine tells you.

COURSE BENEFITS

Throughout the program, participants will:

  • Use an AI tool to prepare, review, and correct journal entries, reconciliations, close checklists, and forecasts, applying professional judgment at every step to validate AI output before it reaches the books
  • Detect anomalies, duplicate transactions, and fraud-risk indicators in general ledger data using structured AI prompting and Excel analytics, including a hands-on Benford's Law exercise
  • Evaluate AI-generated tax and compliance outputs for hallucinations, unsupported authority citations, and missing professional caveats, and understand their personal liability when AI-assisted work product is wrong
  • Design an AI risk-and-control matrix and a complete implementation plan for an accounting function, including a business case, process map, risk register, and success metrics suitable for presentation to senior management
  • Leave with 13 applied workpaper deliverables spanning journal entries, bank reconciliation, GL anomaly review, lease accounting, forecasting, and AI governance documentation, a portfolio demonstrating practical AI competency to current and prospective employers

 


CURRICULUM DESCRIPTION

This three-day intensive is built around an AI platform best suited to accounting workflows and Microsoft Excel. Every exercise uses real-format accounting data: trial balances, bank statements, general ledger extracts, lease schedules, and tax scenarios. Participants do not watch demonstrations, they prepare workpapers, identify errors, and defend their conclusions. The course is built on a single principle: every AI output is a first draft requiring human accounting review, not a final answer.

Fractional Accounting Practitioner

Daria Furman is an accounting practitioner and educator with active client engagements spanning hospitality, healthcare, and post-acquisition environments. She holds an MBA, a Master of Accounting, and is completing her PhD (comps passed) with research focused on blockchain technology in accounting controls and fraud prevention. She has led ASC 606 revenue recognition transitions, managed international finance functions, and built AI-assisted accounting workflows across Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, and Excel for the past 20 years. She teaches this course as a practitioner, not a theorist — every exercise reflects a problem she has solved for a real client.
