Florida Atlantic’s American Marketing Association (AMA) Case Competition team has once again demonstrated their continued success in international marketing competitions, securing a Top 15 Semifinalist spot out of the 76 competing schools made up of over 2000 students. This latest recognition marks an historic accomplishment in the FAU AMA chapter’s journey, following steady ascension over the past four years and building FAU’s reputation as a competitive force in the undergraduate marketing research case competition.
This year’s challenge, focused on Adobe Express, required students to conduct extensive research and develop an innovative marketing strategy. Overcoming disruptions from two hurricanes, the student team exhibited dedication, teamwork, and resilience. Their commitment not only advanced their skills in marketing research but also instilled professional and collaborative abilities that will serve them well beyond the competition.
Under the guidance of Professor Eileen Acello, AMA Advisor and instructor for the Problem-based Marketing Planning course, students enhance their research and strategic thinking skills in class: a key driver of FAU’s rising prominence in the AMA marketing case competition. The combination of industry expert guest speakers and hands-on research collaborations continues to strengthen the AMA student community on campus, which grew to a record-breaking 80 members.
The student researchers responsible for this milestone include Olivia Gonzalez, Emily Neill, Emily Loose, Eriana Mendoza, Jordan O'Brien, Isabella Celis, Stephanie Moreno, Hannah Youssef, Ignacio Lanza Rodriguez, and Kloey Smith.
"As the advisor, mentor, and instructor, I couldn’t be prouder of this incredible team of 10 students who put their trust in me to guide them through the research process,” said Acello. “Their energy, determination, and creativity were truly inspiring, and the camaraderie they built along the way was just as impressive as the ideas they developed. The skills they’ve gained through this experience will serve them well in their future careers. Watching them grow and excel has been an absolute privilege!"
FAU AMA’s latest success builds upon a series of high placements at previous AMA Collegiate Case Competitions. In 2022, FAU was named a semifinalist in the Wall Street Journal case competition, securing the highest placement among Florida universities. For the 2023 competition, FAU earned an Honorable Mention out of 74 competing schools with its compelling sustainability campaign for The Sheth Foundation. Last year’s team also received two other Honorable Mentions at the annual conference—one for their AMA Recruitment Video (Top 8 finish) and another for their contributions during Marketing Week. Additionally, three FAU students were named among the Top 50 out of 300 competitors in the Pitch Perfect competition, showcasing their skills in a high-stakes elevator pitch challenge. A close-to-home triumph included winning at the FAU OURI Undergraduate Research Symposium, with 1st place in the classroom research category and receiving the prestigious Dr. Eric H. Shaw Award.
As FAU AMA continues its upward trajectory, its success serves as an example of the university’s commitment to experiential learning and professional development. The continued support from faculty, advisors, and dedicated student members positions FAU as a formidable contender in international marketing competitions. With each milestone, FAU AMA reinforces its reputation as a hub for aspiring marketers, preparing students to excel in the dynamic and evolving business landscape.
Congratulations to the entire FAU AMA Case Competition team and their mentors for another historic accomplishment. With this momentum, the future looks brighter than ever for FAU’s marketing students!
A special acknowledgment goes to the key figures who contributed to this achievement: Dr. Denise Gravatt for her editorial and co-advisory support, Mariana Pratas for her exceptional organizational leadership, Dr. Cheryl Burke Jarvis for her research expertise, and Marketing Department Chair Dr. Hong Yuan for championing FAU AMA’s growth.
